The longterm goal in wind energy has been to compete with fossil fuels on market terms. Onshore wind has achieved this in favorable wind regions with robust grids. Offshore bottom-fixed wind is following a similar route, becoming competitive in certain markets.
Wind power is big business for Denmark. In 2016, the total value of Danish exports of wind energy products and services was DKK 55.6 billion, an increase of 16% from 2015, and the Danish wind industry today employs more than 30,000 people.
This strategy deals with the environmental impact of wind-energy systems and points at possible technological innovations, as well as knowledge gaps, related to reducing the impact on the environment.
The strategy focus on increasing the ability of Danish knowledge institutions to contribute in maintaining the Danish sector as world leader in the development of competitive wind power solutions.
This report is Megavind’s most recent main strategy. The strategy covers research, development, demonstration and innovation of wind technology and the integration of wind energy into the energy system and pinpoints six principal focus areas.
The report highlights industry experts' call for testing, developing, and demonstrating wind turbines' interaction with the energy system. Denmark's practical experience, covering over 39% of electricity consumption with wind power in 2014, is unparalleled globally.
